Who is Erling Haaland’s father, Alfie Haaland?

Haaland is a name making headlines near enough every week at the moment, but it isn’t Alfie that is doing so.

Alfie Haaland is a retired footballer who played in a couple of different countries and is now best known for the exploits of his son.

FootballFanCast have decided to answer all of the questions that the internet are asking about Erling Haaland’s father Alfie.

Who is Alfie Haaland?

Manchester City's Erling BrautHaaland, former Leeds United and Manchester City playerAlfieHaaland

As has been mentioned before, Alfie Haaland is the dad of Manchester City’s star striker Erling Haaland.

Haaland senior had his days in the sun though, playing football professionally from 1989 to 2003 as well as playing with a couple of smaller teams in 2011 and 2012.

What nationality is Alfie Haaland?

Alfie Haaland is from Norway. He was born in Stavanger which is the fourth-largest city in the Nordic country and then raised in the nearby Bryne.

The latter is where he first made a name for himself on the football pitch.

What is Alfie Haaland's height?

Alfie Haaland stands at 1.86cm, which is roughly 6 foot 1. So, his son certainly has the edge on him there at 6 foot 4.

What is Alfie Haaland's age?

Alfie Haaland is now 50 years old, having retired from club football over a decade ago now and last playing at the highest level 20 years ago.

Where Alfie Haaland now?

Manchester City's Erling BrautHaalandcelebrates with the match ball after the match

Haaland has been a proud and vocal supporter of his son in his pursuit of greatness, from Norway to Austria, from Germany and now to England.

He has done some punditry work with various outlets and has also regularly been spotted at Manchester City games.

Earlier this year he got into hot water after some back-and-forth with Real Madrid fans. Haaland was escorted from his seat in the Bernabeu for riling up the Los Blancos faithful via a number of different gestures and it was even “suggested he threw food at the supporters.”

What is Alfie Haaland’s net worth?

Alfie Haaland’s net worth is reported to be in the ballpark of $5 Million Dollars, which equates to roughly £4 million.

Although, no one really knows apart from him, so it's only speculation and guessing.

Who did Alfie Haaland play for?

As previously mentioned, Haaland plied his trade in a couple of countries, these being Norway and England.

He first played for Bryne FK, where he grew up, joining as a young child and then going on to make his first-team debut at just 17.

After a few years there, he earned his first major move with the second division as his destination. He was pursued by Nottingham Forest under their management of Brian Clough but when he arrived at the City Ground, Frank Clark had since taken over and come his first full season there, they were back in the Premier League.

He enjoyed a few years of PL football in Nottingham and then went on to do the same with Leeds United, scoring 7 league goals in his first season which was his best-ever return.

George Graham was the man in charge when he arrived at Elland Road and he also got the chance to play under David O’Leary. With Leeds, Haaland played a part in their journey to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, known now as the Europa League, and helped them qualify for the Champions League as well.

His last taste of football in England came in Manchester, and more specifically, on the blue half of the city. He joined for a fee of £2.5m and it was here that the feud with Roy Keane became such a prevalent force in the Premier League.

Alongside his time playing for these aforementioned clubs, Haaland made 34 caps for the Norwegian national team between 1994 and 2001 including the 1994 FIFA World Cup that took place in the United States of America.

What happened between Alfie Haaland and Roy Keane?

Sadly, the name Alfie Haaland is most closely associated with that of Roy Keane for one treacherous tackle and various other incidents, as opposed to people focusing on his individual exploits.

As a Leeds player Haaland was chasing down a ball alongside the Irishman and the latter sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury that kept him sidelined for nearly a year. The matter wasn’t helped by the fact that the former wasn’t particularly impressed with Keane and instead believed he was faking it all.

A total of an eight-game ban and £155,000 fine ensued for Keane years later when he deliberately tried to injure the Norwegian. At first the punishment wasn’t all that severe, but the Manchester United man had the bravery to admit to it all being pre-meditated in his autobiography.

It was said that this horror tackle from Keane on Haaland ended the Man City man’s career but that actually turned out to not be the case. Problems with his other knee were instead the reason for his premature retirement.

Manchester City considered legal action against Keane but Haaland, to his credit, set the record straight and so nothing came of it in the courts.

Alfie Haaland stats, how many Premier League goals did he score?

As previously mentioned, the 7 goals in 32 Premier League appearances for Leeds in the 1997/98 season was the best attacking return from the versatile defender-come-midfielder.

In total, he managed 18 goals in the English top flight, 7 for Nottingham Forest, 8 for Leeds and then 3 for Man City.

He made the most PL appearances for Forest on 75, coming just one ahead of the 74 he made for Leeds. Many associated him most with the Citizens but he only amassed 38 league outings for them.

West Ham vs Man City: Head-to-head record, key stats & more

West Ham United and Manchester City have quite an extensive history with one another, facing off 120 times in the years since their initial meeting on St George's Day 1924. Football FanCast has everything you need to know as the two teams prepare to meet again in the Premier League.

While it's still early in the new season, the four games played by both sides can give us some insight into their form going into the game and how they might approach it.

To nobody's surprise, the visitors have started the season off like a house on fire, claiming all 12 points on offer before the international break and doing so without breaking a sweat. So far, they have scored 11 league goals and conceded just two, making them the clear favourites going into the game on Saturday.

That said, the Hammers have also started their league campaign with some brilliant performances and equally brilliant results. In fact, David Moyes' men are currently unbeaten after their first four games and occupy fourth spot in the table, level on points with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal.

Whilst there might have been an element of good fortune with their win over Brighton & Hove Albion – they took less than half as many shots and finished the game with 22% possession – their wins against Chelsea and Luton Town were both thoroughly convincing and suggest that the Hammers could well be the real deal this year.

However, for as good as the East Londoners have looked so far, Pep Guardiola's side are European Champions for a reason, and so they will be going into this game as firm favourites, especially with their Norwegian goal machine already finding the back of the net at an inhuman consistency.

West Ham vs Man City: What's their head-to-head record?

West Ham and City have faced off against one another fairly regularly since their initial meeting 99 years ago. Their 120 games mean that they have averaged 1.2 matches a year since that first meeting.

Despite the reasonably even nature of this fixture for the first 80 years of its existence – with periods of dominance for either side – the last decade-plus has, unsurprisingly, come to be dominated by the incredibly wealthy Man City.

In total, the Sky Blues have come away victors from this game on 63 occasions, whereas the Hammers have only been able to beat their Northern opponents 37 times and claim a single point 19 times.

City's sheer dominance can be seen in the fact that they have only lost two games against the Irons in their last 20 meetings in all competitions.

West Ham vs Man City: What's their Premier League record?

Well, with everything we just explained about the recent nature of this fixture, it should come as no surprise to anyone that City has well and truly dominated in the Premier League era.

In total, the Cityzens have won 27 of their 44 league clashes since the league's creation – a 61.3% win rate. West Ham, on the other hand, have claimed all three points on just nine occasions – with the last time coming back in 2015, pre-Guardiola.

The points have been shared eight times, with the most recent draw coming just last year.

West Ham vs Man City: What's their record at West Ham?

This might actually come as a surprise to some, given their overall record, but when they're playing host, it's West Ham that have come out with all three points more often than not.

In the 58 games held in East London over the years, the Hammers have come away as victors on 25 occasions, giving them a pretty respectable win rate of 43.1%.

City, on the other hand, have won just 20 games in the East End.

West Ham vs Man City: What's their record at Man City?

West Ham's home record might've made for pleasant reading for their fans, but their record in Manchester certainly doesn't. In fact, when the teams clash in the northwest, it's hardly even a competition.

In total, Man City have won 41 of the 59 games held in the city, giving them an outlandishly good win rate of 69.4%.

For their part, the Irons have managed to leave Manchester as winners just 12 times – 20.3% – and with a share of the spoils six times – 10.1%.

West Ham vs Man City: Which team has the most goals?

Well, the answer to this probably shouldn't surprise people, considering how this fixture has gone over the years. Yes, Man City have scored more goals than their East London opponents over the years.

Although, with City winning almost twice as many games as the Hammers, the fact that they have scored just 59 more goals than them is actually somewhat surprising.

In all, the treble winners have scored 214 goals in 120 games – giving them a ratio of 1.7 goals per game – whereas the Hammers have scored 155 goals – giving them a ratio of 1.2 goals per game.

West Ham vs Man City: What happened in last season's fixtures?

City and West Ham played their 119th and 120th games against one another last season, meeting only in the Premier League. Unfortunately for Moyes' men, both games were one-sided affairs won with relative ease by Guardiola's side as they chased down a third successive Premier League title.

Their first meeting in the league came in the opening weekend and saw Erling Haaland open his City account with a goal in both halves to hand the defending champions all three points.

The reverse fixture came in May and saw Haaland joined on the scoresheet by Nathan Ake and Phil Foden as the hosts ran away 3-0 winners – despite West Ham going in level at the break.

West Ham vs Man City: What is West Ham's biggest win?

divin-mubama-michail-antonio-west-ham-premier-league

West Ham registered their biggest win over the blue half of Manchester twice in the same year. In the 1962/63 season, the Hammers beat City 6-1 home and away in the old First Division.

The first instance came in September when the East Londoners travelled to Maine Road and came away with maximum points thanks to a brace from Malcolm Musgrove and goals from Johnny Byrne, Martin Peters, Geoff Hurst, and Tony Scott.

The reverse fixture at Upton Park went just as well, with braces coming from Hurst and Alan Sealey, whilst Ronnie Boyce and Peter Brabrook added another two goals to West Ham's tally.

West Ham vs Man City: What is Man City's biggest win?

Manchester City's Erling BrautHaalandcelebrates with the match ball after the match

Man City's biggest win over the Hammers came in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final in January 2014, when they put six goals past Adrian in the Iron's goal to no return.

Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo scored a hat-trick that day, whilst Edin Dzeko scored a brace, and Yaya Toure rounded off the scoring with one of his own. City would beat the Hammers 3-0 at Upton Park in the second leg to well and truly demolish their opponents.

City would beat Sunderland 3-1 in the final to claim the trophy.

West Ham vs Man City: What are the recent results?

The last five games between these two sides have seen 12 goals scored – including one penalty and one own goal – and a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw in the League Cup. Unsurprisingly, City have come away the more successful side.

Still, with just three wins out of five, an argument could be made that they have slightly underperformed, given their utter dominance of English football in that period.

West Ham can take some encouragement from the 2-2 draw last May and their League Cup win going into the game this weekend.

West Ham vs Man City: When is it?

West Ham host Man City on Saturday 16th September at 3pm British Summer Time. Whilst this fixture hasn't traditionally been one with high stakes in the Premier League or one that has even been all that competitive following City's takeover in 2008, the teams' positions in the table and recent form have given this upcoming game some much-needed jeopardy.

Both teams will be going into the contest with high morale and their own goals in mind.

City will want to continue their dominant start to the season and keep their winning run going for as long as possible, especially after Arsenal managed to find a last-minute winner against Manchester United just before the international break.

On the other hand, West Ham will want to keep adding points to their tally early on in the season to avoid another relegation scrap come the new year. And with how his new signings are performing, we wouldn't put it past Moyes being able to use the positive atmosphere at the London Stadium to pull what would be the surprise of the weekend and come away with a point, if not more.

Overall, this should be an exhilarating game to watch on Saturday, with a lot on the line for both sides and a stadium that should be rocking before a ball is even kicked.

Can U-19 World Cup success be a springboard to international call-ups?

Pakistan Under-19 scored their first win of the World Cup, a nine-wicket thumping of Ireland Under-19 in 37.4 overs in Whangarei.Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who has best innings figures of 8 for 39 in first-class cricket, razed them for 97 by taking 6 for 15 in 8.5 overs. Left-arm spinner and captain Hasan Khan claimed three wickets too, as Ireland were dismissed in 28.5 overs. Joshua Little’s 24 at No. 8 was Ireland’s only score above 20.Pakistan’s top order made short work of the target. Opener Muhammad Zaid Alam smashed 43 off 19 balls, while Hasan made 27 off 21 deliveries at No. 3. The chase was done in 8.5 overs, for the loss of only their wicketkeeper-batsman Rohail Nazir, who made 18 off 14 balls.

Arsenal Could Improve Saka With Move For £80m "Monster"

Mikel Arteta will be delighted with his Arsenal squad at present having taken seven points from nine at the start of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, along with defeating Manchester City on penalties in the Community Shield.

The north London outfit came second in the top-flight last term after spending six seasons languishing below the top four, with the club's Spanish manager making astute, well-placed moves on the transfer front to revitalise the Emirates ship.

While the side feels more balanced and refined, news has filtered in this week of interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney, as Arteta and co look to add another dimension to the squad.

What's the latest on Ivan Toney to Arsenal?

According to The Times, Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in signing Toney from the Bees in January, with the prolific talisman currently suspended until the new year following a breach of FA betting rules.

Read the latest Arsenal transfer news HERE…

The report states that Thomas Frank's side would only grant his departure if their £80m valuation is met, but the Gunners will be emboldened by the knowledge that Brentford are braced for bids and accept they might lose their star man.

How good is Ivan Toney?

The one-cap England international has been described as possessing the "mindset of a lion" by Frank, with such a claim corroborated by a simply tremendous record on the pitch over the past several seasons.

After plundering 33 goals as Brentford secured promotion to the Premier League in 2020/21, Toney recorded a 12-goal season in the top flight before following up those exploits last year with 20 strikes from 33 matches.

Praised as a "monster" by Manchester United content creator Ryan Haber, the 27-year-old recorded an impressive average Sofascore rating of 7.25 last year, complementing his strike record with 2.8 shots per game and creating 12 big chances across the campaign, which illustrates his prowess as a multi-dimensional focal frontman, not just an endpoint in attacking transition.

This is particularly impressive when considering that the sharpshooter created twice the amount of chances Gabriel Jesus made last term, with the Brazilian renowned for his dynamic creativity.

With Toney at the centre of the frontline, Bukayo Saka could well ascend to the next level, with the prodigious right-winger's skill set likely blending seamlessly with the Brentford forward's.

Saka was immense last year, scoring 14 goals and assisting 11 more in the Premier League, earning praise for his dynamism and "electric" presence by Statman Dave.

The £195k-per-week phenom ranks among the top 18% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 17% for assists, the top 8% for progressive carries and the top 4% for touches in the attacking penalty area per 90, as per FBref.

With Saka darting into the danger area and thriving through his directness and creativity, the "sensational" Toney – as he has been called by Simon Stone – could bounce off such a frightening talent.

And while Arteta will be content with his team and the options at his disposal, the club will likely intensify their attention on Brentford's star man if negotiations regarding the exorbitant price tag prove promising.

BCCI SGM on December 11, after ICC FTP workshop

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators had asked the BCCI to hold a meeting before the ICC workshop, given the importance of the FTP on the agenda, but the board has failed to meet the date

ESPNcricinfo staff28-Nov-2017The BCCI has called its emergent Special General Meeting (SGM) on December 11, which means the meeting will take place after the ICC workshop that will be held on December 7-8, in Singapore to discuss the minutiae of the new Future Tours Programme (FTP) for 2019 to 2023. The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) had asked the BCCI to convene the meeting before the ICC workshop because the FTP was one of the three important agendas, but the BCCI has failed to meet that date. The agenda for the SGM will now be the settlement of the dispute concerning the Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise and the revocation of the suspension of Rajasthan Cricket Association.”The BCCI has convened a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Dec. 11, 2017 in New Delhi at 12.30 PM under the instruction of Mr. CK Khanna, Acting President and as per the directions from the Committee of Administrators,” a board release on Tuesday said, without expanding on the agenda. In the absence of a general body debate over the FTP, despite the request from the CoA on November 15 through an email to Khanna, the committee gave its nod to the board’s plan of the FTP designed by CEO Rahul Johri. At the workshop, the Full Member countries will chalk out a week-by-week plan for the FTP, extending from post-2019 World Cup till 2023. Apart from the global events, the FTP will cover the Test and ODI Leagues, which start in the next two years. It is understood that there has been resistance among the BCCI office bearers and the general body against rushing through with the FTP without “time and documents to study and deliberate on the item”.As per the BCCI’s existing constitution, the president can call for the SGM with a 21-day notice period. However, he also has the power to reduce the notice period to 10 days, which the CoA had asked Khanna to do.The important topic for the SGM now remains the litigation involving the Kochi Tuskers. The BCCI needs to decide whether, and how much, it should pay the owners of the franchise, whose agreement was terminated in 2011, two seasons after it came into existence. The BCCI had also encashed the bank guarantee of INR 153.34 crores at the time of termination, which the owners contested in the court. The court asked the matter to be settled via arbitration. In 2016 the Kochi owners won the arbitration case, which said that the board would not only refund the bank guarantee amount encashed by them, but also pay an additional INR 384.83 crore towards compensation for termination of the franchise. Subsequently, the BCCI’s attempts to resolve the issue amicably failed as the Kochi owners wanted compensation upwards of INR 1000 crore. During the SGM in May, Amitabh Choudhury, BCCI secretary, told the members that the BCCI might negotiate a settlement soon. In October, the IPL governing council resolved that the BCCI was left with no choice but pay the compensation. The CoA now awaits the members’ collective call on the subject.

Hughes, Madsen tons grind down Gloucs

Alex Hughes celebrated his county cap with an imperious century as Derbyshire dominated the second day of their Specsavers’ County Championship game against Gloucestershire at the Brightside Ground, Bristol. It had been something of an anti-climax last week when Hughes, 26 later this week, was awarded his cap on the second day of the washed-out championship game against Kent at Chesterfield. However, he wasted little time in further confirming his quality this week. Not only did he post his career best first-class score, but he featured heavily in a 233-run stand for the third wicket with fellow centurion Wayne Madsen. When bad light brought about an early finish, Gloucestershire were 47 for 1, in response to Derbyshire’s impressive 460 all out.The pair had come together on a rain-affected first day, at 74 for 2, and took Derbyshire to 307 for 3, in mid-afternoon on day two. Madsen, who in terms of first-class runs scored has endured his worst season since arriving at Derbyshire in 2009, made up for lost time with his 25th first-class hundred, whilst Hughes continued to prosper on a day dominated by the batsmen. The visitors made excellent progress throughout the day with Madsen, who resumed on 24 not out, reaching fifty off 81 balls and his hundred off 175 deliveries with 17 fours. His innings also took him through 10,000 first-class runs, of which all but 1,308 of them have come in Derbyshire colours.Gloucestershire had one or two opportunities to prise the pair apart during the first session, but a dropped catch at first slip when Hughes was on 11 and a missed run out opportunity with Madsen on 52, were to prove costly.Derbyshire, having received the luck their positive approach fully deserved, looked in total control thereafter. Hughes, whose fifty came up off 119 balls, brought up his fourth first-class century and second against Gloucestershire in as many seasons, off 204 balls with 15 fours. It was an outstanding contribution, albeit on a wicket with precious few demons.Gloucestershire eventually made the breakthrough between lunch and tea, when Josh Shaw had Madsen caught behind. Medium pacer Benny Howell picked up his side’s fourth wicket when he bowled Matt Critchley and Gary Wilson followed to Matt Taylor as Derbyshire reached 355 for 5.By then, however, the damage had been done and although Hughes was finally out in the post tea session for 142, the visitors, providing they bowl well on days three and four, had laid the foundations of a potentially match-winning total. Harry Podmore and Harvey Hosein added 70 for the seventh wicket and Gloucestershire, for whom Matt Taylor and Tom Smith helped themselves to three wickets apiece, were left to respond with the bat. By the close, they were still 413 runs adrift with nine wickets in hand after Hardus Viljoen trapped Chris Dent lbw.

Man Utd Signing £297k-p/w "Beast" Would Be A Blow For Mount

Manchester United are believed to still be in the running for the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder, Leon Goretzka, with the experienced asset potentially set to be up for grabs this summer amid his uncertain future under Thomas Tuchel.

What is the latest on Goretzka to Man United?

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter, Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils – as well as fellow Premier League side, West Ham United – remain in the race for the 28-year-old's signature, with the German international having fallen down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena of late.

Writing on Twitter, the transfer insider stated: "ManUtd never lost their focus on Leon #Goretzka! Understand the 28 y/o is still on the list of the club. #MUFC. Goretzka wanted to stay 100 % – but the last ten days have clearly shown that he won’t be a starter under Tuchel for now. Tuchel is planning with Kimmich/Laimer and wants a new „holding six“ on top. Difficult situation.

"ManUtd & Goretzka, situation to watch! Still a dream target for West Ham."

Read the latest Manchester United transfer news HERE…

This comes amid a prior report which claimed that the former Schalke man has been deemed 'expendable' by the Bundesliga side, with Tuchel and co potentially willing to cash in if they are to receive a bid of around €50m (£43m).

How good is Leon Goretzka?

With the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek all potentially set to be on their way this summer, it is easy to see why Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen his midfield ranks even further over the coming weeks, despite having already wrapped up a deal for England international, Mason Mount.

Having been handed the famed number seven shirt by United upon his arrival from Chelsea, Mount appears set to play a key role for the Old Trafford outfit next season, with Ten Hag highlighting the "dynamism" that the 24-year-old can bring to the side in his midfield berth.

Mason Mount

On the face of it, it would appear that the one-time Derby County loanee is likely to form a midfield triumvirate including Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, with that latter pair taking up more defensive and advanced starting berths, respectively.

However, throwing Goretzka into the mix could well be something of a blow to Mount's hopes of nailing down that final slot in the centre of the park, with the Bayern man having been hailed as "one of the best box-to-box players in Europe" by former boss Julian Nagelsmann, due to his "incredible goal threat" and ability to "bomb forward".

While United's new man has typically been deployed in a number ten berth or on the flanks in recent years for both club and country, Goretzka, by contrast, is a perhaps more orthodox option as a number eight, having lined up alongside Joshua Kimmich over the past few seasons in a midfield pivot.

Ther £297k-per-week gem's quality in that role is shown by the fact that ranks in the top 4% among those in his position in Europe's top five leagues for assists and in the top 13% for non-penalty goals, while Mount, by contrast, ranks in just the top 18% and the top 26%, respectively for those two metrics.

Lauded as a "beast" by Apple's Cristian Nyari, the 6 foot 2 Goretzka could also perhaps offer more defensively as he ranks in the top 21% for interceptions and in the top 9% for aerial duels won, with that again far ahead of Mount's return over the last 365 days (bottom 10% and the bottom 29%, respectively).

While not to suggest that the latter man should already be cast aside, it could be the case that the Englishman's long-term future at the Theatre of Dreams may lie in a more attacking role in the forward line, with Goretzka a perhaps more suitable fit to partner Casemiro next season, due to his all-round strengths.

Lancashire refuse to yield in title challenge

Essex’s lead in Division One is a formidable one but Lancashire’s dismissal of bottom club Warwickshire confirmed they cannot be discounted

BCCI invites fresh applications for India coach role

In the wake of Anil Kumble’s withdrawal from the race, the BCCI has decided to invite fresh applications to pick India’s next head coach. The advertisement is likely to be out on Saturday. The new candidates will join the five already shortlisted candidates comprising Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus and Dodda Ganesh. The last date for submission of applications has been extended to July 9.The final shortlist will be then sent to the three-man cricket advisory committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, who will conduct interviews before sending their final choice to the BCCI. It is understood that the BCCI would ideally want the new coach to be in place in time for India’s tour of Sri Lanka, which his likely to start from July 19. But if the CAC is unable to make a choice by then, the BCCI is willing to wait longer.According to a BCCI official the main reason behind inviting fresh applications was the thought that a number of eligible candidates may not have applied since Kumble himself had re-applied for the post when the BCCI opened the process on May 25. Kumble, who had been recommended and finalised as the best choice last year by the CAC, enjoyed a highly successful run in his one-year term.He was once again the favourite from the six-man shortlist and the CAC endorsed his name to the BCCI subject to the widening rift between Kumble and Indian captain Virat Kohli being resolved. The CAC members met Kohli individually to ascertain the differences he had with Kumble’s style of coaching. The CAC conveyed to the BCCI that, in the best interest of Indian cricket, the differences needed to be sorted out before moving forward. The BCCI top brass – Amitabh Choudhary (secretary), Rahul Johri (CEO) and MV Sridhar (manager, cricket operations) – met Kohli and Kumble separately as well as together. Despite multiple meetings no solution was in sight. Kohli maintained his stance during his last meeting with the BCCI before heading to the Caribbean on Monday. Kumble, too, met the BCCI trio on the same day and felt he was not at fault. Kumble tendered his resignation the next morning and posted on Twitter that he had decided to step down since the “partnership” with Kohli had become “untenable”.

Arsenal are keen on bringing in Gremio midfielder Bitello and sporting director Edu is said to know the 23-year-old 'very well' and has scouted him on several occasions, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Who is Bitello and are Arsenal keen on signing him?

According to 90min, Arsenal are believed to have 'opened talks' with Gremio over a possible move for Bitello that would cost the north London giants in the region of £8.5 million.

Gunners scouts have been over to Brazil to watch him in action and Edu has used his contacts within the game to position Arsenal to do a deal, with an internal belief at the club that he is a player that is currently 'under the radar' but could go on to have a significant influence in the Premier League.

Last term, the Formosa do Oeste-born ace went on to register seven goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions for Gremio, as per Transfermarkt.

In conversation with Brazilian TV show Rede Sul quoted via The Evening Standard, Gremio president Alberto Guerra has indicated that despite interest being widespread in Bitello, no club has submitted a formal bid for the player, as he explained: “There are a lot of people watching Bitello, but there is no proposal, even to reassure our fans, at the moment.”

Foot Mercato have detailed that AS Monaco will provide competition to Arsenal as they look to sign Bitello, who is uncapped at international level, this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Brown thinks that Arsenal sporting director Edu may rely on his connections in his homeland as the Gunners turn their focus towards bringing in Bitello.

Brown stated: "Arsenal are trying to sign another midfielder. At the moment, the favourite is Bitello from Brazil.

"Edu knows him very well and has watched him a few times already. I think he's 23 years old and is expected to have a very bright future and wouldn't cost the earth.

"I don't believe Arsenal have actually made a firm bid to sign him yet, but I think that's the next player that they might be trying to target."

What other business are Arsenal keen to conduct this summer?

According to The Athletic, Arsenal were said to have contacted Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo's entourage while their negotiations to land Declan Rice took place amid nervousness that his deal wouldn't be completed.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will reignite their interest in the Ecuador international, with any move for another midfielder potentially contingent on Thomas Partey leaving the Emirates Stadium, as per Football London.

Arsenal are also believed to be 'preparing' a move for Southampton youngster Romeo Lavia and will fight with Premier League rivals Liverpool to try and secure the signature of the Belgium international, as per Football Insider.

Mikel Arteta has hinted that Arsenal aren't done yet in the transfer market in an interview with Sky Sports via 90min, stating: "We’ll have to see and how things develop in the next couple of weeks. We’ll be alert. There’s still time to do things and there’s still time for exits obviously. I’m sure things will move."

In the next few weeks, we will get a better idea of who else could enter the fold at the Gunners as the start of the 2023/24 campaign draws closer.
