Burnley have already made one signing in the January transfer window, bringing in David Datro Fofana from Chelsea on loan, but as we reach the final five days of the transfer window, the Clarets look far from done.

Vincent Kompany, trying to do all he can to keep his side in the Premier League, is keen on Ajax winger Carlos Forbs, again on an initial loan deal. Nottingham Forest are interested too, and it could come down to which club offers more first-team minutes.

Meanwhile, Kompany is also looking to strengthen at the other end of the field with a move for Montpellier defender Maxime Esteve. It emerged this week that the Clarets are working on a deal for one of their "main options", with Montpellier coming under pressure to sell as the player enters the final 18 months of his contract.

Speaking ahead of his side's game against Lille this weekend, manager Michel Der Zakarian was adamant that Esteve would feature and said that any departure wouldn't take place until the early part of next week.

According to a fresh update from French newspaper L'Equipe, Burnley are now on the verge of signing Esteve. The fee will be €12m, which works out as just over £10m.

Esteve is attracting interest from a number of teams, but Burnley have forged ahead and they are now close to completing an agreement for the centre-back.

Now that Burnley are seemingly well on the road to landing Esteve, it's worth taking a look at what kind of player Kompany could be getting. Talent scout Jacek Kulig has described him as a "dominant" force at the back, and his numbers from this season support that assessment.

The outlet claim that the 26-year-old is also attracting interest from Premier League pair Brentford and Crystal Palace following his exploits in the Italian top flight this campaign. According to Daily Telegraph reporter Sam Dean, West Ham are currently "considering" a move for Sunderland's Clarke this month and are reportedly "ready to spend."

That willingness to spend will be essential if they want to secure the former Tottenham Hotspur man's signature, as the Evening Standard has reported that the Black Cats will only listen to offers 'north of around £20m.'

While that isn't an outrageous sum of money in the modern game, it is quite a significant fee for a youngster who has never played in the Premier League.

That said, with the performances he has been putting in for the Championship side recently, it could be a move that ends up mirroring Bowen's transfer from the second tier back in January 2020.

Now, aside from Declan Rice – who isn't even at the club anymore – there isn't a player who has had as much of an impact on West Ham's fortunes over the last couple of years as Bowen.

The dynamic Englishman – was snapped up on a £20m deal from Hull City four years ago – scored the winning goal in Prague last season and has already racked up 13 goal involvements in just 19 league starts this season.

So, to expect the "unplayable" Clarke, as described by journalist Josh Bunting, to come in from the Championship and immediately produce similar results would be unfair and unrealistic.

However, suppose you compare the Sunderland man's underlying numbers to Bowen's during his final full year at Hull City. In that case, the potential for the Hammers to sign another brilliant attacking prospect from the Championship is impossible to ignore.

In fact, the "super talent", as former manager Tony Mowbray dubbed him, actually outshines his potential new teammate in most relevant metrics.

“I do not know if he would come to Celtic. He would have been there on the night that Real Madrid played at Celtic Park and that was a wonderful occasion. But playing against teams like Ross County, there are not many glamour nights in Scotland.

“I do not think he would move from Real Madrid. I would love it, I would love somebody from Real Madrid to come to Celtic but I just do not see that happening. I would have thought there will be a lot of suitors for someone of that calibre, a lot of Premier League clubs needing good goalkeepers.

“If he comes to Celtic and we can get two years out of him that would be ideal. Would he want to do that? Only he could make that decision. It would be wonderful if he came to Scotland because he would be a great addition to Celtic.”
