Chelsea Could Eye 44 y/o As Surpsrise Manager Option

Chelsea could potentially look to Frank Lampard as a possible option to become their next permanent manager over the summer.

Why did Chelsea reappoint Lampard?

After Bruno Saltor's only game as the caretaker manager in charge of Chelsea, the decision was made to replace him with Lampard until the end of the campaign.

Saltor had overseen the draw at home to Liverpool, however, Lampard's return did not get off to an equally as impressive start following a defeat away from home at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea now remain inside the bottom half of the Premier League table with a whopping 17-point gap now opened between themselves and the top four.

The search for Chelsea's next manager goes on with the likes of Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann believed to be two of the main options for the Blues.

However, there are some massive games ahead of Lampard to prove his worth to the likes of Todd Boehly and none bigger than the Champions League tie against Real Madrid.

Indeed, speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Simon Phillips has claimed the 44-year-old could potentially play himself into contention if he is to turn around Chelsea's dreadful form:

"I'm told that he did not come with the intention to stay short-term, and in his eyes, he wants to prove that he can be a contender to get the role on a full-time basis.

"The club would not rule this out if Lampard has a very good spell from now until the end of the season, especially if he pulls off a miracle and wins the Champions League."

Could Lampard turn around this Chelsea side?

The fixtures ahead of the Blues over the coming weeks are certainly not easy ones with Chelsea still to play the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Arsenal in the league.

With this in mind, it did feel as if Chelsea needed a result on the weekend against Wolves to get them up and going under the former Chelsea midfielder.

But this was clearly not the case as the Londoners failed to even get themselves on the scoresheet against Julen Lopetegui's side at Molineux.

Frank Lampard returns to the dugout as Chelsea lose to Wolves in the Premier League.

Lampard's side had real issues in front of goal with just one of their 13 shots landing on Jose Sa's goal over the course of the game (via SofaScore).

That has been the story of Chelsea's season so far with the seven-fewest (29) goals of any Premier League side over the course of the campaign.

Lampard's previous tenure at Stamford Bridge did not offer a whole load of optimism for his short spell until the end of the campaign having won marginally over half of his 84 games in charge across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

Having said that, if he is able to pull off a Champions League miracle, then perhaps it may be time to refresh our judgement on the 44-year-old – but that does feel a huge ask for Chelsea to beat the reigning champions.

Mark Goldbridge Fumes At Man United Takeover Bid News

YouTuber Mark Goldbridge had claimed he feels" betrayed" as Sir Jim Ratcliffe may now by only around 50% of Manchester United.

What's the latest MUFC takeover news?

Back in February, the British billionaire was understood to have made a bid for 69% of the club – the exact amount currently owned by the Glazers. Had that offer been accepted, it would have meant the family would not be involved under Ratcliffe's ownership (via Sky Sports).

However, it has now been reported that he has made a bid which is close to 50 per cent, meaning Joel and Avram Glazer would still hold a 20% stake in Man United.

Speaking about the development on TalkSport, Goldbridge certainly wasn't happy about it all as he no doubt wants the Glazers out completely.

He explained: "I do feel a little bit betrayed by this Sir Jim Ratcliffe bid because as little as two weeks ago, we thought it was between Qatar and Sir Jim to buy the whole club.

"And literally three days ago we got this breaking story that Sir Jim couldn't afford the whole club and was going to buy 50% of it. And then he was going to keep 20% of the Glazers there and 30% on the New York Stock Exchange.

"And, you know, you're borrowing money to do that, and the debt would be there."

How much will Sheikh Jassim bid for Man United?

With this being the case, it is easy to see why some supporters much prefer the idea of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani taking over.

After all, the Qatari banker would supposedly take complete control of the club, removing all debt as well as adding additional capital and infrastructure investment, while seeing the Glazers depart.

However, Sheikh Jassim is reportedly only prepared to make an offer in the region of £5bn, which is roughly £1bn below the current owner's asking price.

With that being the case, the Glazers may feel as though there is not enough of a financial incentive to completely sell their asset right now, so Ratcliffe's offer may be the most appealing prospect.

After building up the belief that ownership could completely change at Old Trafford, it's likely that many fans will agree with Goldbridge in feeling concerned by this latest news.

As this saga continues to develop with twists and turns, it will be interesting to see how it all eventually turns out.

Leeds Could Sell £45k-A-Week Defender This Summer

Leeds United centre-back Diego Llorente could join Roma on a permanent basis at the end of the season, according to a fresh transfer update.

Is Llorente impressing on loan?

The 29-year-old joined the Serie A giants on loan during the January transfer window, having struggled to be a regular at Elland Road during the first half of the season. He hasn't managed to become a key part of Jose Mourinho's plans, however, starting only three league matches and making only five appearances in the competition overall.

Llorente has still done his bit for the cause, though, starting twice in the Europa League and helping Roma reach the semi-finals, with a tie against Bayer Leverkusen to look forward to in the next few weeks.

His current Whites deal doesn't expire until the summer of 2026, should Roma decide against retaining his services beyond this season, but the Italian outfit do have an option to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Could Roma sign Llorente permanently?

According to Giallorossi.net [via Sport Witness], Roma are "already in contact" with Leeds over Llorente's future. Although they are hesitant to pay the full €18m (£15.9m) release clause fee, they are "ready to negotiate" a lower amount in order to keep him at the club.

It is claimed that the Spaniard is "happy to stay" at his current temporary club and end his time at Leeds, having racked up 59 appearances in a Whites shirt and proven to be an important figure at times despite injury woes, helping them remain in the top flight last season.

In truth, an Elland Road exit makes the most sense of all parties moving forward, even though Llorente has been hailed as "heroic" by BT Sport commentator Dave Farrar recently, and is clearly someone who could still benefit Leeds. At 29, he isn't getting any younger, meaning more youthful long-terms and less injury-prone options should be looked at instead this summer.

The money received for Llorente can also go towards new signings, while the fact that Roma are offering him European football means he is likely to perfectly content with moving away from Leeds for good.

Should the centre-back depart, he should still be remembered as a solid servant who produced some accomplished performances at the heart of the Whites' defence, averaging 2.5 clearances and 2.3 tackles per game in the Premier League back in 2020/21.

Liverpool Eyeing Transfer Swoop For £20m-Rated PSG Man

Liverpool are preparing a move to try and bring PSG’s Renato Sanches back to the Premier League this summer, according to Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke.

Will Liverpool Sign Renato Sanches?

The French outfit are planning to offload several players according to O’Rourke and the midfielder is one of the names that could be shown the door.

It’s positive news for Jurgen Klopp, who is eager to add more depth and more starting options to his Liverpool midfield. He’s previously admitted that one of his former signings Fabinho has struggled to get going this season and is “not flying” while other options in the centre have either faltered in their form or been sidelined with injury.

The Reds’ boss has also admitted that this summer will be a big one for the Anfield outfit, with the German insisting that his team “have to be in the market” for some more additions.

One of those names that could be brought in is Sanches, with Klopp reportedly a ‘big fan’ of the midfielder. The manager allegedly tried to convince FSG to snap him up during the last summer transfer window, only for Sanches to head to PSG instead.

Now though, according to Football Insider, the player could be available again during the close season – and the Reds could capitalise on that when the window opens. With a potential move for Jude Bellingham seemingly out of the equation, it leaves the Anfield side needing to find another suitable option and Sanches appears to be that man.

Would Renato Sanches be a good Liverpool signing?

Sanches has clearly been on-the-radar for Liverpool before, so he is a player that Reds fans will already have some awareness of after he was dubbed a “powerhouse” during the last saga. That familiarity and the fact he isn’t an unknown quantity will already make him a more appealing option than others if he does seal a move back to the Premier League.

In terms of his capabilities, the 25-year-old has proven that his time with Swansea in England previously was merely a blip. He managed just a 6.47 rating (via WhoScored) during his solo season with the Swans but has since gone from strength-to-strength as a player in France. With Lille, he upped that to 6.85 and although his current score with PSG this year ranks at 6.47 too, he has added goals and attacking verve to his game.

He has two league goals in limited minutes this campaign and had five in total during his stint with Lille, whereas with Swansea he had none. It shows that he is now getting forward more, as a combative midfield option, and has added more creativity and drive to his game. That could be just what Liverpool need, with no midfielder in the Reds’ team managing more than one goal in the Premier League during this campaign.

Tottenham: Spurs Hold "Positive" Talks For "Genius" Boss

Tottenham Hotspur have held 'positive' talks with the agents of former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, and he is now happy to sit down with them.

Who could Spurs replace Conte with?

The north Londoners, over a month after parting ways with former boss Antonio Conte, are still very much on the look out for his permanent replacement. Cristian Stellini and assistant coach Ryan Mason have taken interim charge of the Premier League top four hopefuls in the meantime, with the aim of securing Champions League qualification.

The Lilywhites have reportedly drawn up their shortlist of managerial candidates to succeed Conte with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann and Enrique among their most high profile options as free agents.

Those in-work are also attracting attention from Tottenham, with perhaps most notably Arne Slot of Feyenoord and Oliver Glasner of Eintracht Frankfurt being the most heavily tipped to potentially join. Whoever chairman Daniel Levy chooses to appoint will be a crucial, crucial decision – especially as voices in the stands grow ever more restless with the ownership of ENIC.

Spain's former boss Luis Enrique.

Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter have also been sporadically mentioned by members of the media, though the British duo don't appear to be as regularly talked about as the likes of Enrique. Going back to the Spaniard, after reports of Spurs planning to open talks with him, an update has come to light courtesy of 90min.

The outlet claims that Tottenham have held 'positive' talks Enrique's entourage, and after these optimistic discussions, Spurs are set to sit down with the 52-year-old. He is now apparently happy to talk with Spurs over their vacancy as both sides prepare for 'face-to-face' negotiations.

Should Spurs go for Enrique?

One big obstacle in Tottenham's way will be rivals Chelsea, who could surely be stepping up their pursuit of a new manager after they crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

They're apparently targeting Enrique as well, but if Spurs can somehow convince the tactician to move to their side of London, he could be an exciting appointment. Boasting multiple La Liga titles and a Champions League winner's medal on his CV, Enrique encourages an attack-minded 4-4-3 formation (Transfermarkt) – being called a 'genius' by members of the press.

Of course, his lack of Premier League experience could be seen as something which may count against him, but Enrique's status as a free agent opens the door for clubs like Spurs to make a risk-free move financially.

We believe he should, at the very least, be up there on Levy's list of serious options.

Tottenham team & injury news, predicted lineup vs Liverpool

Ryan Mason takes charge of his second game as Tottenham Hotspur's interim manager and it doesn't get any easier as they face Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.

The north London outfit may harbour slim top-four aspirations but will be at risk of dropping to sixth place with a defeat as that would see the home side leapfrog them in the standings.

There is certainly some cause for optimism under the 31-year-old after he inspired a two-goal comeback against Manchester United in midweek, though with few players back from injury, it will be interesting to see what sort of side he selects today.

How will Spurs lineup vs Liverpool?

Fraser Forster is set to resume his duties between the sticks with usual no.1 and captain Hugo Lloris still absent through injury. However, there could be alterations to the backline in front of him.

Eric Dier has struggled for form and consistency in recent outings and is one candidate that could be taken out of the firing line, especially as he'd be set to come up against players like Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.

Instead, Japhet Tanganga – who was once hailed as a "huge talent" by podcaster Chris Miller – could come into the fray for only his third league start of the season as he'd offer far more pace and dynamism than his fellow Englishman.

The 24-year-old made his Premier League debut against the Reds back in January 2020 and his performance saw Jurgen Klopp claim that he was "very impressive," so perhaps he could look to repeat such exploits once again.

Cristian Romero and Clement Lenglet both keep their place, with the latter taking up Dier's central role as the ball-playing quarterback. Pedro Porro should also continue on the right flank, with Emerson Royal absent through injury, whilst Ben Davies may be preferred to Ivan Perisic due to his defensive qualities.

Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min celebrates scoring their second goal with interim manager Ryan Mason

In midfield, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be joined by Pape Matar Sarr, instead of Oliver Skipp in the third and final change, as the young Senegalese gem can provide more box-to-box qualities than the Hotspur Way graduate.

He has also impressed in big matches with what little game time he's seen. Sarr was arguably the 'best player on the pitch' against AC Milan at the San Siro, so starting at Anfield shouldn't bother him one bit.

Meanwhile, further up the pitch, Mason is left with a tough dilemma – does he stick with Richarlison or opt for Dejan Kulusevski?

The Brazilian forward was hooked after just an hour but he could keep his place alongside Heung-min Son and Harry Kane. The former Everton star will know more than most what it's like to play against Liverpool, so he could well be very motivated to score his first league goal for the club back in Merseyside.

Predicted Spurs XI (3-4-3): Forster; Tanganga, Lenglet, Romero; Davies, Hojbjerg, Sarr, Porro; Son, Richarlison, Kane

Leeds: Gracia Must Unleash £65k-p/w ‘Animal’ Vs Leicester

Leeds United return to Elland Road this evening to take on fellow strugglers Leicester City in the Premier League, and Javi Gracia must consider restoring Luis Sinisterra to his starting side.

Should Leeds start Sinisterra tonight?

After three consecutive defeats against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Fulham, the Yorkshire outfit have been sucked right back into the relegation battle, having previously distanced themselves from the bottom three with wins over Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Not many players can escape with much credit from the month of April thus far but Sinisterra boasts two goals in the Premier League after scoring the winner against Nottingham Forest, and the easily-forgettable but still impressive finish in the 6-1 thrashing by Liverpool.

The Colombian winger, who joined Leeds from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022, has struggled for consistent form and fitness in his debut campaign at Elland Road but has shown glimpses of being a top player at this level.

In 21 appearances in all competitions, the 23-year-old has notched six goals including four in the top flight, which makes him the joint second-top scorer alongside Jack Harrison and Crysencio Summerville in Gracia's squad behind only Rodrigo.

Despite his lack of regular starts in the Premier League, Sinisterra ranks third for shots and dribbles per game in Leeds' squad, which emphasises how dangerous he can be down the left-hand side when at the top of his game, and suggests that he could cause serious problems for a shaky Leicester defence on Tuesday.

Much has been made about Leeds' struggles in defence this season, with only Bournemouth conceding more goals in the Premier League, but Leicester have also been woeful at the back, shipping 56 goals in just 32 top-flight fixtures so far this term.

Leeds manager Javi Gracia

In fact, Leicester's last clean sheet in the league came back in November 2022, so Leeds must be positive from the outset at Elland Road and attack their vulnerable visitors, in the hope that it can inspire Gracia's side to a much-needed three points against their relegation rivals.

Sinisterra, who earns £65k-per-week at Leeds, is capable of tying any defender in knots but will likely find himself up against Timothy Castagne at right-back should he get the nod to start this evening, and he could terrorise the Belgian right-back in particular, as no defender in Leicester's squad has been dribbled past more this season.

The 23-year-old has been dubbed an "animal" by international teammate Juan Cuadrado and Gracia must consider unleashing the dangerous winger again tonight after he was perhaps harshly dropped against Fulham last time out.

Liverpool Now Unlikely To Move For £20k-p/w Star

Liverpool are now unlikely to move for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka, journalist Dean Jones has revealed.

What's going on with Ndicka?

The centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and is set to leave Frankfurt. At 23, he could be a player that interests a lot of clubs, as a left-footed central defender.

Liverpool were previously linked with a move for the Frenchman, but it now seems that he is set to move elsewhere.

Ndicka has been described as "exciting," and with wages of £20k-per-week, it could have been a fairly cheap deal to pull off.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones revealed that Ndicka could join Napoli, and that he is unlikely to move to Anfield this summer.

"Liverpool have been linked with Evan Ndicka as a potential solution to helping their defensive depth for next season, but it seems Napoli is a more likely destination" he stated.

"It’s an interesting one because the profile of the player seems a good fit, but over the past couple of weeks I have struggled to find anyone that believes it is going to be a deal Liverpool push for.

"And now in Italy, there seems to be confidence that Napoli are looking at him and are putting themselves in a good position to make a proposal. So it feels like we can probably scratch him off the list."

Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

Do Liverpool need a centre-back?

Despite an impressive recent run of form, Liverpool have suffered a large drop-off from last season, and reinforcements are needed across the pitch.

Virgil van Dijk has come in for criticism over his form this season, as the once flawless Dutchman has started to look vulnerable, and extra cover for the 31-year-old could be useful this summer.

Ndicka could have been the long-term successor for Van Dijk as a left-sided defender, and he could have formed a partnership with fellow Frenchman Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool could still look at a defender, as Joe Gomez has also come in for criticism, and Joel Matip is ageing. A younger option who could rotate, and perhaps eventually start next to Konate could help pad the squad.

Klopp's side still have a shot at Champions League qualification, but may be forced to settle for a Europa League spot, and a large squad will be needed regardless of which competition they qualify for.
